Intisar Foundation and the Arab Institute for Women (AiW), the first regional research centre on Arab women by the Lebanese American University (LAU), signed a three-year agreement to organize the largest regional symposium in the Arab world focusing on the topics relating to women, Peace, and mental health.

HH Sheikha Intisar made a donation for the organisation of three annual conferences in 2025, 2026, and 2027, focusing on “Prioritising Women, Peace, and Mental Health within the Arab Region.” These conferences will aim to address the psychological trauma and violence experienced by Arab women through drama therapy

HH Sheikha Intisar AlSabah, Founder and Chairwoman of Intisar Foundation, and Dr. Michel E. Mawad, President of LAU, officially signed the memorandum of understanding at LAU Beirut campus in the presence of Myriam Sfeir, Director of the AiW, and Karima Anbar, CEO of Intisar Foundation.

“This cannot be just another conference. It has to be, and will be, different! We will create a powerful platform that not only raises awareness, but also inspires concrete action and drives meaningful change where it matters most for Women, Peace, and Mental Health.” said HH Sheikha Intisar during her speech. “This day marks a significant milestone –the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Intisar Foundation and the Arab Institute for Women at LAU. This partnership demonstrates our shared commitment to address the profound impact of trauma on women’s mental health.”

Dr. Mawad added, “It is a particularly good omen that this generous gift of Trustee Intisar Al-Sabah to AiW comes during our centennial year. It also comes as AiW celebrates its 50th anniversary as the foremost platform for gender equity research, advocacy, and activism in the greater Arab world. A gift of this nature will undoubtedly add momentum to AiW’s trail blazing performance and extra visibility to its work. It will also allow it to go into the new domain of drama therapy.”

“Thanks to this donation, we pledge to prioritize women’s rights, peace, and mental health and most importantly to remain a powerful source of information and a leading voice for activists across the region,” said Sfeir.
